PRAXIS II Tests: An Orientation

Education Institutions and PRAXIS

PRAXIS II assessments evaluate how well potential teachers know the content material that they will be teaching to their students. The test results provide data that reflect the effectiveness of teacher preparation programs at specific education institutions, which certainly want their students to perform well on the assessments. The EPSB uses PRAXIS II Subject Assessment/Specialty Area Tests as part of its evaluation of Kentucky teacher preparation programs. Funding is also tied to these data.

Institution Involvement in PRAXIS II Preparation

Teacher education programs benefit when their students perform well on the PRAXIS Series of tests. Although individual student scores are not public information, the composite score of an institution makes newspaper headlines. Institutions have accreditation ranking and funding at stake when the PRAXIS II scores are released.

Education institutions provide a variety of assistance based upon the size and expertise of the faculty and the needs of the students.
