PRAXIS II Tests: An Orientation
The EPSB Role
All applicants for Kentucky teacher certification (except those seeking ONLY Exceptional Education certification) must successfully complete the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) assessment appropriate to their certificate and PRAXIS II subject assessment(s) for each teaching certificate being sought. Applicants for initial educator certification in Kentucky must successfully complete required PRAXIS assessments. Prior to receiving a Statement of Eligibility, an applicant must have passing scores on all assessments required in each content area for which certification is requested. Scores on tests completed more than five years prior to application for certification shall not be acceptable.
Qualifying candidates for Kentucky teacher certification from other states
and countries must also meet the PRAXIS II assessment requirements. However,
for applicants who hold a valid certificate and have completed two (2)
years of successful teaching in the subject area and grade level on their
certificate, current testing requirements will be waived. Substitute teaching
is defined in 704 KAR 20:060 under "successful teaching experience." http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/kar/704/020/060.htm
