Option 2: Local District Training Program Certification

For Teaching Grades Birth-12

You are a candidate for this route if you:

  • have a bachelor's degree with a 2.5 GPA (exceptional experience may be substituted for GPA requirement);
  • have passed required written assessments in the specialty area;
  • have completed a 30-hour course of study in the specialty area or have five years of exceptional field experience related to the certification area being sought; and
  • have an offer of employment from a school district that has an approved training program.*

After successfully meeting the requirements of the one-year training program, the candidate receives a one-year Provisional Certificate and participates in the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP).

Upon successful completion of the internship program, he/she receives the Professional Certificate. (See 16 KAR 7:010 for a description of certificates.)

*The EPSB currently has an approved local district training program in Jefferson County. For more information, contact Jefferson County Public Schools at (502) 485-3229 and ask about the ACES program.
